Is it too late to be posting my 2017 goals? It probably is, but I don’t care. New year, same me. 🙃 Here are a handful of things that I want to work on this year. I typically do monthly goals/resolutions, but these are things that I see myself working on throughout the year.
Read | This resolution always makes it to the list and I always break it. I can’t remember the last time I finished a book and I’d really like to change that. It might have something to do with my short attention span or maybe the books I’m reading simply aren’t keeping me interested. If you have any book recommendations (or audiobooks), let me know!
Reach out | This is a new resolution that I hadn’t really thought about until a friend actually reached out to me after a month or so of no contact. We would get together weekly and catch up– we had a good routine going on until our schedules conflicted and our hangouts came to a halt. I admit, it was random and out of the blue, but I wasn’t weirded out. In fact, I felt incredibly grateful to have a friend put in effort to continue where we left off. I’m not the best when it comes to keeping in touch with people, so this really inspired me to do better with that. It’s a simple gesture, but it’s something I haven’t always been comfortable with because I never want to seem like a bother. This year, I’m going to make an effort to keep in touch with old friends and colleagues, because I feel like these personal connections are what matters most.
Consume less | …in terms of both food and materialism. This year, I’d like to cut back on wasting food, which hopefully in return, will save me money. I try my best to cook as often as I can, but sometimes I end up with so much leftover produce that it goes to waste. I plan to reduce my food waste by buying only what I need and making frequent trips to the store so that fresh produce doesn’t go bad as fast. As for material items, last year, I drastically cut back on buying new clothes. I found that a lot of my shopping was going towards home necessities, because I had just moved into an apartment with my boyfriend and we basically started out with no furniture and no kitchen items.
Take charge of my health | I hate doctors, but that’s no excuse for not going to the dentist or getting a general health check-up. Since my job has provided me with health insurance, I should take advantage of those benefits and take care of myself. I guess I’m just afraid of finding out bad news, but I know that the sooner I get my health checked, the sooner I will have peace of mind.
Put myself first | Since a recent family emergency, I’ve come to realize that in order to take care of others, I need to take care of myself. Having the time to recharge, reset, and practice self-care is something I’m going to strive for in 2017. I’ve always been a people pleaser, but this year, I’m going to make it a priority to put myself first and do things purely for myself without feeling guilt or shame.
What are some of your goals for 2017? Let me know in the comments, because I’m always looking for more ideas on self-improvement! Thanks for stopping by!
