I’ve been receiving the Sephora Play! subscription for 3 months now and my overall experience has been so-so.  Some months are a total hit and others are a total miss.  In this monthly subscription, you receive 5 deluxe samples (plus a fragrance sample) for $10.  Additional perks include one-on-one tutorials at your local Sephora and 50 bonus Beauty Insider points when you purchase a product in store.

July has come and gone, and after receiving a notification that my August box has shipped, I thought I would take a moment to review last month’s products!

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer:  This is a great matte bronzer to warm up your complexion.  The powder is smooth and it’s easy to work with.  I don’t typically like fragrant makeup products, but the chocolate scent surprisingly doesn’t repel me from using it!  I received this in Medium/Deep and thought it was going to be too dark, but it’s the perfect shade.  I’m not sure if I’ll purchase the full-size, because I feel like I can get the same results from the super affordable NYC Sunny Bronzer.

Ouai Haircare Wave Spray:  This product made its way into my life with perfect timing because I recently got my hair cut!  I’ve been rocking perfectly tousled waves every day, thanks to this little guy.  After I curl my hair, I spritz the Wave Spray all over, scrunch my hair, and I’m done!  I find that this holds my waves in place all day and adds a bit of grit and texture to my hair, which is essential, especially if I’m styling freshly cleaned hair.  Before, I was reaching for my hairspray and texturizing spray, but now I only have one product to go to, and that’s made my morning routine a little better.

Citrine by Nest Fragrances:  I have yet to be disappointed by Nest when it comes to their fragrances!  I think they do all of their scents really well.  Even the warm/sweet scents that I typically don’t gravitate towards, I would still wear!  This particular one, Citrine, has notes of lotus flower, freesia, and citrus.  It’s a beautiful daytime scent and it’s fitting for the summertime.

Blotterazzi by Beauty Blender:  First off, I love eco-friendly products and I like the idea of reducing my carbon footprint by cutting down on the amount of tissues/napkins I use to blot my face throughout the day.  The Blotterazzi works well to take away shine and not disrupt your makeup, but I don’t think this product works with my lifestyle.  I wish it came with a little pouch or cover so that I can easily carry it in my purse, because I don’t want to blot my face with a sponge that has been floating around in my purse amongst my other belongings.  I guess I could stick it in a plastic ziplock bag.  I welcome any suggestions on this issue!

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay:  This is an old favorite of mine and I’m really happy that I now have a travel size version!  This is my go-to cleanser when my skin is acting up and breaking out.  Twice a day for a week (or two, depending on how bad my skin is), and I’m golden.

Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer:  You can tell your pores to “peace out” when you’re using this primer.  I was pleasantly surprised with how well this primer reduced my pores, because I’ve tried other “pore minimizing” primers and have been slightly disappointed.  As with all other Smashbox primers, this one has that velvety finish which I actually like!  The only downside to this product was that I ended up getting shiny after a few hours, but this primer doesn’t claim to prevent shine.
