I, like many others, have been reflecting over the past year and I gotta say, 2015 was a rollercoaster of a year for me. In August, I left my job because I had been unhappy at it for 2 months and things weren’t looking up. Although this was a great realization and I don’t regret my decision at all, it left me unemployed for 3 months. During those 3 months, while I was job-searching like crazy, I decided to take a chance and pursue a thought I’d been entertaining for the past 3 years– fashion blogging. This was the moment I decided to dedicate the majority of my day to working on my blog (because job-hunting and resume building all day everyday was getting depressing). I spent my days taking outfit pictures, discovering new blogs, learning how to self-host, researching what photo editing apps were the best… the list goes on. It felt so good and refreshing to immerse myself in a new field where I was constantly learning something new everyday and the feedback I was getting was so rewarding!
I know I haven’t been consistent on posting here lately. Life and major adulting opportunities have been thrown my way, but I haven’t given up on this blog and I don’t see myself doing so either! This blog is going to continue being my passion project and I’m excited for what this space will become. And with that, here are some other things I want to accomplish in 2016!
Sure, I read a lot of blogs and way too many articles on Elite Daily (their clickbait is strong), but I don’t find ever find myself cracking open a book and I honestly miss it. I miss the feeling of getting completely lost in a book and how organic that feeling is. Setting aside a minimum of 30 minutes a day to read something not illuminated by my phone or laptop seems pretty doable. Book recommendations are welcome! 🙂
Connecting with fellow bloggers was an exciting thing for me last year, but in all honesty, it kind of gave me a lot of anxiety. I love discovering new bloggers, but when I get noticed back, it takes me by surprise because I’m simply not used to getting attention, especially being a newbie in the vast blogosphere. It was fun doing a collaboration lookbook post with Tien and sharing advice with Naomi through twitter DMs. I’m a pretty reserved person in real life and online, but my goal is to not be afraid of connecting with new people, because once you get over that initial fear of talking to someone new on the internet, that new relationship is quite rewarding!
I believe that there should be balance in everything you do. As much as I’d like to strive to connect this year, I also think it’s important to pull the plug on some things, put a cap on your workday, and disconnect. There are rare moments in the day when I’m not accompanied by some kind of electronic device, whether it’d be my phone, laptop. or tv. It’s really sad. This year, I’m going to work on finding a balance between real time and technology.
I used to journal every single day, even if it was about the most mundane things, but my writing became less frequent the older I got. Now I only find myself writing when I’m feeling completely overwhelmed or when I’m feeling negative. This year, I’d like to set aside time once a week to reflect, write, and get everything off my mind in order to keep myself from bottling up emotions. I would also like to write about more positive moments, rather than venting and writing about my annoyances.
This is a huge goal of mine and one that will take a lot of self-discipline, but I am very excited about this challenge! There is no doubt that I don’t need anymore makeup/skincare/body care/haircare– I have more than enough. I discovered Stash Matters blog last year and I was incredibly inspired by her yearlong No-Buy. Although I don’t think I’ll be able to quit buying beauty products cold turkey (let’s be real here), I feel like limiting myself to one new product a month would be a little less daunting and doable! I find a lot of joy in shopping my stash and rediscovering old favorites, so that’s what I’d like to focus on this year. Plus, my one item each month won’t be an impulse buy because I’ll have all month to ponder on whether or not to get it.
I always feel inspired after reading other bloggers’ 2016 Goals posts, so I hope I was able to inspire you even though I published this post mid-month!
Hope you all are having a wonderful 2016 and stay warm wherever you are!
